6. Laura Mulvey's theory on representation

Laura Muley states that " in a world that's unequal and male dominated men do the looking and women are looked a, so they are styled in a way that men want to see them"

This is especially seen in music videos whether the male is the artist or the woman is, below are two examples where i'll explain the specific points at which females are represented in a way that men want to see them.

Here is Dizzee Rascal- holiday

Straight away three seconds into this music video, a close up of a females  bikini top is shown
then at 19 seconds into the video is a mid close up is a close up of the main females bikini outfit, blocking out her face.
at 31 seconds we're shown her behind for at least two seconds before the camera starts panning upwards
and lastly at 44 seconds the man stares at her but not her face, her body
Less an a minute into the music videos and there's many examples that I've picked out that shown that women are presented in a sexual manner (the way men want to see them

Nicki minaj super base
which in below the holiday video, although nicki minaj is a female artist she  is also presented in a way men want to see her. Firstly throughout the whole video, the outfits she wears tight revealing outfits this hows her certain parts of her body on purpose one last thing I noticed was that the  dance routine was filmed at an angle that has viewers focusing on her body rather than her face. These are all examples that show that Laura's viewpoint is still relevant in today's society.
